Right in front of Lisbon, guided tours of the Salinas do Samouco nature reserve allow visitors to discover the culture and history linked to the saline activity and, at the same time, identify the flora and the fauna of an immense area, in which the highlight goes to the numerous bird species, more than a hundred and a half. And among them, how to ignore the flamingos, in all their splendour? The Flamingo Trail, with almost five kilometres, is one of the most sought after in the reserve, and it should be noted that the population has been increasing. In 2021, for the first time, there were already two colonies of flamingos nesting in two protected areas, with a considerable number of nests.
